GAHP expands collaboration in Uganda through a transformative project funded by the Pure Earth Strategic Policy Fund.
This initiative sets out with a clear mission: to raise awareness about the perils of lead exposure among school children, teachers, parents, and the broader community in Uganda. The goal is to advocate for and implement safer practices and policies surrounding lead exposure.
The project began last month in collaboration with the government of Uganda through the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), experts and stakeholders; GAHP will support convening a working group dedicated to drafting and recommending policy changes specifically tailored to mitigate the risks associated with lead exposure in Uganda. Two Working Group meetings are scheduled, and the first is designed for the last week of March.
The project also has an awareness component, aiming at educating school communities and the broader public about the dangers of lead exposure, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the issue to ensure sustainable, long-term impact. GAHP’s Secretariat coordinates this work with the steadfast support of our Board Chair, Raymond Ruyoka, and Dr. Emmanuel Tebandeke. As we embark on this journey to create safer environments in Uganda, we invite you to join us in championing this cause. You can donate by visiting our dedicated page.
