Event websiteConsumer products are an under-recognized source of lead exposure, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Recent headlines in the United States have brought attention to lead poisoning linked to contaminated products such as applesauce, baby food, metal cookware and spices. This webinar will present three groundbreaking peer-reviewed papers exploring different aspects of lead in consumer products and lead exposure.
Experts will discuss a new study, A Snapshot of Lead in Consumer Products Across Four U.S. Jurisdictions, soon to be published in Environmental Health Perspectives, which highlights the need for additional surveillance and international interventions. Consumer Reports will share their latest findings of dangerous lead levels in foods in the U.S. Additionally, the webinar will feature insights from a comprehensive study on lead concentrations in consumer products purchased from markets across 25 low- and middle-income countries and an expert evaluation of global mortality from chemical pollutants.
The event will be moderated by Karen Mathiasen, Project Director at the Center for Global Development. The presentations will be followed by a live audience Q&A with special guests and paper authors Dr Katie Fellows of the Seattle & King County Hazardous Waste Management Program and Dr Paromita Hore of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
