7 FEB | Healthy and sustainable environment is a Human Right

On 7th February, GAHP Executive Director was invited as a speaker at the International Conference on Food Justice from a Human Rights Perspective organized by NHRC in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, GANHRI, UNDP, IFAD, and the Arab League.


GAHP intervention highlighted that in July 2022, the United Nations welcomed the recognition by the General Assembly that a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is a human right. Read GAHP's working paper "Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment Is a Human Right."

But today this right is routinely violated in many parts of the world particularly in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

Despite the tremendous impacts on human health and the global economy, the cost of inaction on environmental pollution has been undercounted and insufficiently addressed in national policies and international development agendas.

Addressing pollution in agricultural and food systems is crucial for upholding the right to food, protecting the environment, promoting human health, and achieving sustainable development goals. More on the conference here.
